Mustangs on the Move Fundraiser!

Our fundraiser is in full swing!  Our class would LOVE to earn the pizza party.  The class with the top donations wins this prize.  Thanks for supporting the kids and gathering donations from friends and family.

All donations should be returned in the envelope by Monday, Oct. 9th.  During the week of Oct. 9th-13th the students will be participating in some fun health and fitness activities culminating with our Walkathon on Friday, Oct. 13th in support of all their donations collected!   For every $10 collected each student will get a ticket into a drawing for some awesome prizes!  Let's go Mustangs!!

Red Barn Field Trip!

Monday, Oct. 9th our class will be walking to the Red Barn for some fall fun and learning!

We will arrive there at 9:30am and leave at 11:30am.  Parents are welcome to attend either by walking with us, or meeting us there.  We ask that younger siblings do not attend, as this is a special experience for our kindergarten students and all four Kdg classes will be attending together which makes for a lot of little bodies!

.  Student admission to the Red Barn ($8) per student will be covered by our Family Links through our Mustang's on the Move Fundraiser!  Thank you!!

Parents planning to attend, please send in $8 (cash only please) to cover your admission fee.  The admission fee includes picking a pumpkin, a bag of apples, donuts and cider and all the fun and learning on the farm.  Adults, please be sure to get your pumpkins, apples and treats as you will have paid for them!  All parent money needs to be turned in by next Friday, Oct. 6th.  Again, no money is needed for students.

Phonics

We spent time learning about letters Oo, Pp, Qq, Rr and Ss this week.  We continue to focus on a letter a day.   Your child is also learning the sound and a signal (a motion) for each upper and lowercase letter.  You can practice saying words and having your child tell you the first sound they hear in the word.  You can also show them a letter and have them name the letter and give the sound and the signal.

Math

We are learning to...

*Understand what math is
*Solve problems
*Explain our thinking
*Work on our own, with a partner and with a team

This week we explored:

*Recognizing, naming and counting numbers 0-5
*2 dimensional shapes (circle, triangle, hexagon, square and rectangle)
*Comparing groups of objects and identifying the group that has the most/greatest, least/fewest, or if they are equal/same.  These are new words for many students.  Practice using them at home as well.

Writing

We are learning to...

*Tell a story by illustrating
*Label our story with beginning sounds
*Retell our stories
*Form letters correctly and neatly

Science

We are learning about animals homes, how they communicate and how they look for food.

Reminders

*  Send a snack daily.  Be sure it is separate from their lunches and easy to find.
*  Return library books every Thursday.
