October 4th
Mustangs on the Move Fundraiser!
All donations should be returned in the envelope by Monday, Oct. 9th. Next week students will be participating in some fun health and fitness activities culminating with our Walkathon on Friday starting at 1:30pm in support of all their donations collected! Families are welcome to come out and cheer us on!
Red Barn Field Trip!
Monday, our class will be walking to the Red Barn for some fall fun and learning!
We will arrive there at 9:30am and leave at 11:30am. Parents are welcome to attend either by walking with us, or meeting us there. Parent admission fee ($8) was due today.
I highly suggest sending in a spare pair of shoes and socks for after the trip. We walk through the field to get there and it's always soggy in the morning! Rain boots are a good idea.
Next week is Homecoming Week at LAS!
We will be celebrating with a Spirit Week...
Monday-Hat Day
Tuesday-Sports Day (favorite sports team)
Wednesday-Wacky Wednesday (crazy hair, socks, outfits)
Thursday-Beach Day
Friday-Red Arrow Spirit Day
Parent Teacher Conferences
An email from the office will be coming home on Monday with a link to sign up for a conference for your child. Please note that my schedule is a little different from most of the teachers as I have a scheduling conflict with one of the days. I will be holding conferences on Monday, Oct. 16th from 5-8pm, Tuesday, Oct. 17th from 8:00-8:30AM and 4:00-6:30pm also on Wednesday, Oct. 18th from 8:00-8:30AM. I am looking forward to meeting with you all soon!
Phonics
We spent time learning about letters Tt, Uu, Vv, Ww and Xx this week. We learned that Xx is most often found at the end of a word. We continue to focus on a letter a day. Your child is also learning the sound and a signal (a motion) for each upper and lowercase letter. You can practice saying words and having your child tell you the first sound they hear in the word. You can also show them a letter and have them name the letter and give the sound and the signal.
Math
We are learning to...
*Understand what math is
*Solve problems
*Explain our thinking
*Work on our own, with a partner and with a team
*We finished up Unit 2 on the numbers 0-5. The kids are masters at identifying, writing, counting and comparing the numbers and groups of objects 0-5. Zero is always a tricky one one for them to understand the quantity.
*2 dimensional shapes (circle, triangle, hexagon, square and rectangle)
*We started Unit 3 that focuses on 6-10. Practice identifying, counting and writing these numbers with your child at home.
Writing
We are learning to...
*Tell a story by illustrating
*Label our story with beginning sounds
*Retell our stories
*Form letters correctly and neatly
*We are learning to illustrate a beginning, middle and end of a story.
Science
We are learning about animals homes, how they communicate and how they look for food.
Reminders
* Send a snack daily. Be sure it is separate from their lunches and easy to find.
* Return library books every Thursday.
* Field Trip on Monday!
* Fundraiser Packets and $ are due on Monday!
