Red Barn Field Trip--Mark your Calendar!

Monday, Oct. 9th our class will be walking to the Red Barn for some fall fun and learning!

We will arrive there at 9:30am and leave at 11:30am.  Parents are welcome to attend either by walking with us, or meeting us there.  More information on trip fees will come home next week.

Phonics

We have been learning how the parts of our mouth help us to make letter sounds.  Our teeth, tongues, and lips, along with our nose and voice box all help to make consonant sounds.    We also learned how to make vowel sounds.  This week we also spent time learning how letters are formed by using vertical, horizontal and slanted lines, as well as circles and curves.  We have been practicing "Sky Writing" different capital letters.

Here are some tips for helping your child when they are doing any writing at home...

1.  Are they holding their writing tool correctly with the pincer grasp?  Here's a look at the correct form...

2.  Are they resting their hand and forearm on the table?  From fingers to elbow, their arm should be supported on the writing surface.  This gives them the most support.  Another trick is to have your child write while laying on their bellies and propped up on their elbows.

3.  Is your child forming the letters correctly?  When practicing their name, they should be starting at the top of the letter and have the first letter only being a capital letter.  The rest should be written as lowercase letters.

Keeping an eye on these things at home will help support what they are learning and practicing at school.

We spent time learning about letters Ee, Ff, Gg, Hh and Ii this week.  We continue to focus on a letter a day.   If your child misses one of our letter days, I will send the project home with him/her to do.  These projects do not need to be sent back to school.
