November 4th
The class is making great progress towards knowing all of the letters and sounds already! They have also been making great strides in learning to read our Pink List of Sight Words in a SNAP! Thank you for practicing these at home. :)
Field Trip to the Grand Rapids Public Museum
Please see the email sent today with all the details or click the link below. We are looking for 4 Lead Parent Volunteers. I promise it's not a hard job! We will also need many more parents helping that day, so if you aren't one of the 4, please still plan to attend and assist with your child's group! Parents will be able to take their child home at the end of the museum trip.

Reading
We labeled our Old Time Favorite Storybooks this week. Some were even able to write complete sentences. We also learned to segment the sounds we hear in words. You might see you child "tapping out the sounds". As the year progresses, this becomes easier and easier for the kindergartners to do.
Math
We said "Good-bye" to October and welcomed in the month of November. This month on our calendar grid we are learning all about flat and solid shapes (2 and 3 dimensional). This week we were introduced to the cube and sphere. We also continue to count the days we've been in school. We are up to 52 days already!
Our math lessons this week talked about counting by 2's. We looked at bicycles and estimated and counted how many wheels 10 bikes would have.
Reminders
* Send a snack daily. Be sure it is separate from their lunches and easy to find.
* Return library books every Monday.

Problem solving and team work using pattern blocks
During Social Centers this week we had kids making inventions using Tinker Toys to create tents, sprinklers and even vacuums! Such creative little minds!
