October 28th

October 28th

We've had a great 2 weeks of learning!  Hope to see many of you at our Halloween Party on Monday.  Find a spot out in the front of the school by 2pm.  When the parade concludes, please join us back in the classroom while we have some treats and Halloween fun.
Please do not send your child in his/her costume.  Please have them bring it in a bag labeled with his/her name.  We have a couple parents who have signed up to help get the kids in their costumes starting at 1:45pm.  Reminder...no "weapons" of any kind are allowed at school as part of a costume.  You'll be able to sign your child out with me following the party at 3:00pm.

Conferences

I appreciate the time we had to discuss your child's growth so far this school year.  They are certainly all settling in to our routine!  Please remember if you ever have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me.  You can expect the same from me.

Field Trip to the Grand Rapids Public Museum

Mark your calendars!  We will be going on another field trip on Monday, Nov. 21st to the Grand Rapids Public Museum. More information will be coming in the next few weeks.  We will be there for most of the day.

Phonics

We were introduced to three more SNAP Words this week:

I    like    my   me   a    the
see    look   at
New Words:    this    is    here

We've had several students moving on to the next list already!  Remember, as soon as your child is ready, send me an email or send in the list and I will give them a quick assessment.

I will be giving all students a Snap Word check up next Friday!

Reading

We got our book boxes this week!  We also have learned that not only can we learn about the world from nonfiction books, but we can also make storybooks "Old Time Favorites".  We do this by enjoying a book over and over until we can retell the story using the pictures in our own words!   We look at the pictures, remember the story and retell it/

We have a lot of fun retelling stories like The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Mrs. Wishy Washy!

Math

Here's a look at our Number Corner...

During the month of October we have looked for patterns in our calendar grid.  We've counted each day of school using dots on ten frames, with chains and on a number line.  We also made a counting collection of blue and orange snap cubes comparing quantities throughout the month.

This week we made a classroom "Halloween" quilt and identified patterns.

Writing

We are learning that writers can add more to their writing by labeling parts of their pictures.  We are learning to listen for and write more than just the first sound in a word. This helps others to read our writing.

Reminders

*  Send a snack daily.  Be sure it is separate from their lunches and easy to find.
*  Return library books every Monday.
*  Next Friday is Ice Cream Friday and Make Your Mark T-shirts!
