October 14th

October 14th

Monday--Please have your child pack a small stuffed animal in his/her backpack.  We will be using them during our phonics lesson.  Thank you!

Conferences

I'm looking forward to seeing you all next week on Monday and Wednesday.  The Book Fair will be open during conferences if you're looking to shop for your kindergartner.

Halloween Party/Parade

Mrs. Kohn is organizing our Halloween Party on Monday, Oct. 31st!  Information/Sign Up will be coming soon.  The parade will begin at 2:00pm with our classroom party/treats immediately following.  Parents should find a spot outside on the parade route and then at the completion of the parade you are welcome to join us back in the classroom.  Parents attending will be able to sign their child out at 3:00pm to make room in the parking lots for our buses to arrive.

Field Trip to the Grand Rapids Public Museum

Mark your calendars!  We will be going on another field trip on Monday, Nov. 21st to the Grand Rapids Public Museum. More information will be coming in the next few weeks.  We will be there for most of the day.

Phonics

We were introduced to three more SNAP Words this week:

I    like    my   me   a    the
see    look   at

Please help your child to practice reading and writing these words at home.  I will be sharing our first list of Snap Words with you at conferences.

Math

This week we made number racks to 10.  We learned how the combinations we've been making on our ten frames can also be shown on the number rack.  We practiced showing different quantities to 10 as well as number combinations to 5.  We also learned how those combinations can be shown as number equations.

At Home:  Practice writing the numbers 1-10

Writing

We kicked off Writer's Workshop this week, learning about what an author and illustrator do.
Our kindergarten writers are learning to put their thoughts down in the form of a picture and then labeling parts of their pictures with the letter sounds they hear.

Reminders

*  Send a snack daily.  Be sure it is separate from their lunches and easy to find.
*  Return library books every Monday.
