Red Barn Market Field Trip!

We are going to be walking to the Red Barn Market next Thursday, Sept. 30th from 9:30-11:00am, to learn about apples and pumpkins!   Please send in $5 to cover the cost of our trip.  All money should be turned in by Wednesday.  Any parents wishing to attend may meet us at the market at 9:30am.

Homework Folder

Today your child is bringing home a yellow "Homework Folder".  Please keep this folder at home.  There are some tools for you to use if you're looking to extend your child's learning at home.  

Ice Cream Friday!

October 1st, our Family Links will be selling ice cream at all lunches.  The cost is $1 per student.  Please send all ice cream money in on Friday.  

Grand Rapids Public Museum Field Trip

Mark your calendars for Monday, November 15th.  We will be going to the Grand Rapids Public Museum.  It's always nice to have lots of parents at this trip.  More information will be coming out in October.  

 Reading/Phonics

This week we learned the letters Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm and Nn.  We continue to work on making our Alphabet Books and practicing letter formation in our Highlighting Books.  

In Reader's Workshop, we were introduced to our book boxes and how to read with a partner.  We also made a Pete the Cat color book to add to our book boxes.  Your kindergartner is already learning how to track print from left to right and one word at a time!  

Math

We will be finishing up our number book to 10 early next week.  We have learned to write the numbers, count out a a set of objects and show the number on a 10-frame.  We are also daily practicing counting to 50.  

Reminders

*  Send a snack daily

*  Send a water bottle daily...our drinking fountain is now working, too!

*  Wash towels over the weekend and return them on Monday

*  Return library books every Monday

Partner Reading...Let's learn about the world together!

This week our phonics focus was on learning to "own" all the letters in our name, to write our name fluently,  with the correct capital and lowercase letters and to teach someone else about the letters in our name.  We are becoming name experts!
