November 7th
This week we started reading and learning about different ways we use pushes and pulls. The class discovered that they do many things on the playground that are considered pushes and pulls. We are learning how we can change the speed and direction of a push as well.
Literacy Bags
Our books are becoming more challenging. Many of the words are decodable based on the sounds we have been learning. Be sure to read my note in the bag to help guide your child as they practice at home. One of the tricky words in this week's books was the /s/ ending on the word /taps/. It's OK if your child is struggling with these stories at first. Remember we are just getting started on this road to becoming fluent readers. Keep encouraging them along the way and make reading time fun, even if that means you read some of the challenging words to them! We are trying to instill the love of reading!
Upcoming Field Trip
We will be going to the Grand Rapids Public Museum/Planetarium on Monday, Dec. 8th. We will arrive at the museum about 9:40am and will be leaving the museum at 1:00pm. Students will need to bring a lunch that day as we will be eating at the museum. Parents attending should meet us at the museum by 9:35am.
The following parents were drawn as lead volunteers for the museum and will not need to pay admission upon arrival: Kate Clark, Colleen Wickerham, Samantha Kaminski and Rachael McCarty. We will still need a lot of helpers, so if you did get drawn and are able to attend, we would love to have you meet us there! Thank you all!
Jan 27th--The Grand Rapids Symphony Lollipop Concert--The following parents were drawn to attend:
Kaylee Smith and Brooklyn Cowan.
We will have many more opportunities for help at upcoming field trips. I appreciate all of you willing to help!
