September 5th

September 5th

This week we started our 26 days of letters!  We are making a project with each letter to practice fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.  This week we learned Aa, Bb, Cc and Dd.  The kindergartners are using scissors to cut on straight, curved and zig-zagged lines.  This tends to be a skill that many of kids are lacking.  These projects help us to build routines and to follow multi-step directions, as well.  It is so important that you allow time at home for your child to develop these skills.  Let them cut up old papers, trace lines and curves, play with Play-doh and draw in the sand.  All these things help to develop that hand eye coordination and strengthen the muscles in their hands.  All these skills need to be practiced over and over in order to make them strong writers in the future.

Literacy Bags

In your child's folder today is a plastic baggie labeled "Literacy Bag".  Please be sure to look through it, remove and read the instructions and books.  Please return the empty baggie in your child's folder on Monday.  I will add more books to it each week for your child to practice our reading strategies at home.
