May 5th

 

May 5th

The Food Fight is underway to help families in our community!
The kids are excited at the chance of winning a pizza party for the most donations brought in!  We are off to a great start!

Monday/Tuesday

I will be out of the classroom on Monday and Tuesday of next week for meetings and Kindergarten Round Up.  Please let the office know of any end of the day changes.  Thank you!

Dates for your Calendar

Monday, May 15th --Field Trip to the Farm (Diary Discovery)  10:00-12:30
Parents...if you are attending, please have your $6 in cash turned into me by Friday, May 12th.  Thank you!  Students will need a sack lunch/drink and dress for the weather and the farm.  
 

Wednesday, May 17th--K-2 Field Day!

Thursday, May 18th--Field Trip to the Wittenbach Nature Center 9:30-1:30
Please pack a sack lunch and drink as we'll be eating at the center. 

Monday, May 22--K/1st grade Music Concert 2pm in the gym
Parents will sign out students in the classroom following the program.  

Thursday, May 25th--Kindergarten End of the Year Picnic at Creekside Park in Lowell
10:45-1:30pm  
Please pack a sack lunch and drink as we'll be eating at the park.  
Families (younger siblings included) are encouraged to attend!  Parents may sign out students after the picnic.  

Countdown to Kindergarten!

Spread the word!  If you or someone you know has a child that will be starting Kindergarten next year, they need to contact the office ASAP to get signed up for our evaluation and visitation day scheduled for May 9th!  We are planning to offer both a Young 5's classroom as well as traditional Kindergarten for the 2023-24 school year if we have enough students to fill a Young 5's class.  

SNAP Words

Keep practicing our SNAP words!  We are getting very good at recognizing them in our daily reading.

Math

We have been learning to...

*understand 10's and 1's with the teens
*Add and subtract within 10

Reading

We have been learning to...

*Read Consonant Vowel Consonant (CVC) words
*Blend sounds to read nonsense words
*Listen for short and long vowel sounds in words
*Identify /l/ and /r/ blends at the beginning of words
*Silent /e/ or Magic /e/


Writing

We have been learning to...
*Leave spaces between words
*Add labels to our pictures
*Spell Snap Words correctly
*Write a complete sentence with ending punctuation
*Make covers for our books
*Write all the sounds we hear in a word including the vowel sounds.


Reminders

*  Send a snack daily.  Be sure it is separate from their lunches and easy to find.
*  Return library books every Monday.
