September 23

September 23rd

WOW!!!   Over $41,000 raised!  Murray Lake families are so generous!!  Thank You to our Family Links parents for all of their hard work and dedication to this year's Mustang's on the Move.  Here's some fun from our afternoon Mustang's on the Move Fundraiser!

Red Barn Field Trip

Monday, Oct. 3rd our class will be walking to the Red Barn for some fall fun and learning!

We will arrive there at 9:30 and leave at 10:30am.  Parents are welcome to attend either by walking with us, or meeting us there.  The cost is $6 which covers the cost of our apple and pumpkin learning activities, story, cider and donuts, picking pumpkins and visiting the animals.  Please send in your child's $6 (cash only please) in an envelope labeled with "Red Barn" by Friday, Sept. 30th.

Parents wishing to attend and have donuts and cider/pick a pumpkin, will need to pay inside the market upon your arrival to the Red Barn.

Phonics

This week we discovered that as we learn the names of our friends, those names can help us to read and write other words.  We had a lot of fun playing the name game!
We learned how we can label things in our environment by listening for the sounds we know and writing them down.  Mabel introduced the kids to our first three SNAP words:

me       a        the

Please help your child to practice reading and writing these words at home.  Your child will be introduced to 54 Snap Words (Sight Words) this year.  Their goal is to fluently read 30 or more of them by the end of the school year.  You can find a list of all of our Snap Words on the tab at the top of our blog page.

We spent time learning about letters Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm and Nn this week.  Ask your child to give you the sound and the signal each letter makes.

Math

Unit 1 Math Newsletter for Parents

This year I am piloting the Bridges Math program for our district.  I'm excited by all the early numeracy skills our class is involved in and the large amount of time allotted for hands on activities.  This helps build that concrete learning before moving on to the abstract learning of digits and symbols.  This program has periodic homework pages as added practice of what we previously learned.  You also have family access to some math activities you can try online with your kindergartner at home.  These are always optional activities to do.

Reminders

*  Send a snack daily.  Be sure it is separate from their lunches and easy to find.
*  Return library books every Monday.
Next Friday is ice cream day!  Send $1 with your child and they can purchase a treat after they eat lunch
