Report Cards are in your folder today and yours to keep.  If your kindergartner didn't have a folder today, they were placed in his/her backpack.  Please just sign and return the little parent slip attached to the outside.  If you have any questions, please be sure to reach out to me.  I'd be happy to go over anything with you.

Kids Have Rights Program

Our class will be attending the Kids Have Rights Program on Thursday at 9am.  An email went home from the office today about the program.  If you have any questions please let me know or give the office a call.  The kindergarten program consists of a 15 minute session that combines movement with learning.  The students identify safe adults in their lives and three different kinds of touches.

 Reading/Phonics

Unit 4 is all about becoming Avid Readers!  We are learning that an avid reader does several things...They read a LOT, find places everywhere to read, keep a stack of books ready to read, REALLY pa attention to the book and feel what the charters are feeling.
This week we spent time thinking about our stories and talking with our partners about the characters.

As readers and writers we also gained a new super power...VOWEL power!  They learned that every word must contain a vowel.  They also discovered that sometimes the letter Yy acts like a vowel.  As writers, they went back through their own pieces of writing and found where they left our specific vowels.  As your child writes at home, remind them to really listen for the vowels in a word.

We also were introduced to four new snap words:   how    you     am    did

Can your child read all these SNAP words?

Unit #1 Words:

a    me     the     I     like   my

Unit #2 Words:

see      at     look      this     is     here     it      in      an     and

Unit #3 Words:

can   to   do    we   be    got   was    went    she     he

Unit #4 Words:

how    you   am    did    on    up    fun     get
day     play    say    for

Math

This week in math we worked with non-standard measurement.  We used a variety of tools to measure objects around our classroom.  We also compared the length of objects to determine which was shorter and longer.

Reminders

*  Send a snack daily several have been forgetting.
*  Send a water bottle daily...our drinking fountain is now working, too!
*  Return library books every Monday

Take a Peek at our Week...

We worked in groups to edit a piece of Mabel's writing as she forgot to put in all of her vowels!
You should have seen how well these 5 and 6 year old's worked together.  They were taking turns, having discussions and listening to each other.  They were true collaborators!!

These kids LOVE their books!
