April 18th

April 18th

Today has been a fun adventure with all the storms rolling through.  Ironically, we have been learning about weather this week and so we got lots of chances today to be weather watchers and talk about all the things we were observing as the weather changed!

This week your kindergartner may have came home telling you all about their "Table Pets".  They each "adopted" a little pet to take care of.  They also can earn things for their pet.  This week they earned blankets for their pet.  This is a fun way to work on responsibility and to continue our awesome behavior as the year end approaches.  Here's a few of our "pets".

Reading:  We have been learning about digraphs this week.  So far we learned /ch/  /sh/  and both the voiced and unvoiced sounds for /th/.
New sight words this week:  are, from, his, has, had, him, you, what, have, yes
**We have officially been introduced to all of our Kindergarten sight words.  Please continue to practice the whole list.

Math:  Three dimensional shapes have been our focus.  We have learned that 2 dimensional shapes have length and width, but a 3 dimensional shape has length, width and height.  We are learning to identify cones, cubes, cylinders and spheres.  Practice looking for these shapes at home and in the environment and have your child name them.  These names are especially tricky for the kids to remember:  cylinder and sphere.

***We are in NEED of at least one more parent volunteer for our spring trip to the Wittenbach Center on May 15th.  Please sign up below on the Dates for your Calendar section below.

Food Fight Information!

Lowell Area Schools is launching its annual 2025 Food Fight to fill the shelves at Flat
River Outreach Ministries with hope and helping hands! Last year, our neighbors in
need made over 3,000 visits to the pantry. Our elementary schools are powerful
champions in this mission of hope! Together, we can reach our big goal of 10,000 food
items and $10,000 in just three weeks. Every donation, big or small, plants seeds of
hope in our community!  Let's be the winning class for MLE!

Starting April 21, bring your donations to school and watch hope grow! The class with
the most donations will earn special recognition, and one lucky school will take home
the legendary Food Fight Trophy!

Week 1 (April 21-25): Morning Basics - Peanut Butter and Sugar Free Jelly

Week 2 (April 28-May 2): Midday Staples - Soups, canned veggies (beans, tomatoes,
corn, peas, carrots, mushrooms), or reduced sodium broth

Week 3 (May 5-9): Evening Foundations - Spaghetti, noodles, mac & cheese

Can't bring items to school? Families can donate online, too!
Remember, each dollar equals 4 points for your school, while each food item equals 1 point.
Online donations welcome here: fromlowell.org/foodfight/#donate

Thank you for transforming hunger into hope, one donation at a time!
