May 31st

May 31st

We are down to the final days of Kindergarten!  The year has flown by!

Fun on the Farm!

Phonics/Reading

Next week, I will send home our book of Decodable Passages.  These are the stories we have been reading over the school year.  Keep these in a safe spot and have your child pick a story and read it each day.  There are a couple stories that are first grade stories and have not been completed, but I encourage your child to give them a try, but know that they will get instruction on them in first grade.

Math

We are learning to...

*Compare objects by different attributes:  weight, height, length and capacity

Writing

Next week, I will be sending home a Summer Journal.  Please don't let this get thrown out!  I have challenged your kindergartners to spend at least one day a week, drawing about their summer and writing a sentence or two about their adventures.  You should encourage your child to print neatly on the lines, leave space between their words and tap out the sounds they hear.  The first letter of the sentence should be capitalized (along with "I" if used) and punctuation should be added at the end of each sentence.  I will include a list of all of our heart words.  These should always be spelled correctly as we have learned them "by heart".  Their picture should be detailed with realistic colors and have some labels.  If they bring them back to me in the fall, I will have a little something for them for all their hard work.  :)

Reminders

*  Send a snack daily.  Be sure it is separate from their lunches and easy to find.
*  Return library books every Thursday.
